It’s the time of the year again! The elves are hard at work, and Santa’s preparing to do his worldwide rounds. Bring out the holly, bring out the mistletoe but don’t bring out the sweaters and scarves. Even though many of us associate the festive season with cold weathers and snow-capped trees, it really is different for us here on the equator. Here are 11 places to get icy and cool log cakes that will help lower your body temperature in the tropical heat.
Rejoice as the festive season is just around the corner! Bakerzin is bringing you three exclusive log cake flavours that are bound to please your palate!
The star of the show this year would be the Triplette Chocolat Cake Log ($ 80/2kg) that resembles three tree stumps put together. Each ‘stump’ is made from a classic Bakerzin flavour – decadent chocolate, pure cream cheese, and caramel. With a variety of flavours to choose from, all your guests will definitely have a slice of cake in their hands.
If chocolate isn’t your thing, how about something tropical and zesty? The Coconut Passion Yule Log ($ 62/800g) looks like it was picked up from soft, white fluffy snow. Encased in the beautiful white cream lies a medley of tangy and sweet passion fruit cream and desiccated coconut bits that go harmoniously together.
The Rainbow Yule Log ($ 60) reminds us of happy days. Made with seven colourful layers of sponge, the log has silky smooth chocolate buttercream and orange ganache artfully slathered between the layers. Expect a burst of zesty, and rich sweetness in every bite. Apart from log cakes, Bakerzin also offers other sweet treats such as the Festive Macarons “Santa Buttons” ($ 12/6 pieces, $ 39.90/27 pieces), and Gingerbread Cookies (44.50/2 pieces).
Did you forget to get a Christmas tree this year? Not to worry! The Yule Want Croquembouche (from $ 40/kg) resembles a baked Christmas tree of all things sweet and happy. It is built with 47 pieces of choux pastry, and it might just be the most delightful Christmas tree that your guests have ever come across!
Carlton Hotel Singapore
Carlton Hotel brings back past favourites and new creations this year to celebrate the festive season.
The Merry Berry Log Cake ($ 63/kg) looks fit for a princess. This fruity log cake features four flavours that surprisingly complement each other – lime, raspberry, mango and chocolate. The sweet and tart cake is thick and creamy and carries a nice and refreshing citrusy hint. This gorgeous looking cake is then dusted with pastel pink powder for an extra sparkle of pink-fection. Definitely a hit for all the princesses-to-be!
If log cakes are too mainstream, why not get a Panettone? Carlton Hotel releases a new Chocolate Hazelnut Panettone ($ 30) that looks great for a whimsical-themed party. Filled with chocolate hazelnut ganache and brandied cherries, this sweet and luscious bread loaf is then topped with crunchy hazelnuts for a play on texture.
For the fans of Carlton Hotel’s previous cake creations, fret not. The Flame Valentino Log Cake ($ 63) and Classic Chocolate Log Cake ($ 60) are back!

Goodwood Park Hotel
Instead of the usual roast, why not have a dazzling dessert as the centrepiece of your Christmas table this year? Goodwood Park Hotel always creates stunning desserts, and this year is no exception.
For log cakes, the hotel is introducing its brand new Zesty Logs ($ 52/500g), which comes in a duo. Made up of two ‘tree stumps’, these logs bring a citrusy flavour to the table. One of the log logs is made up of apple mousse calamansi cream and chiffon sponge, while the other sees Caraibe chocolate orange scented cream come together with a flourless chocolate sponge. The tangy sweetness of the calamansi and apple complements the intensely-flavoured chocolate perfectly, making the entire ensemble especially captivating.
Back by popular demand, the Goodwood ‘Mao Shan Wang’ Durian Christmas Log Cake ($ 69/500g) tastes as good as it looks. If you’re a big fan of their durian treats, this is one log cake that you wouldn’t want to miss.
Remember to grab a few chic Mini Mousse-icles ($ 16/3 pieces) too! The Mousse-icles come in 3 flavours – Guanaja Chocolate Mousse, Summer Berry Mousse and Yuzu Mousse. Each mousse-icle deserves a spot on the ‘gram before you sink your teeth into them.

This year, Jack’s Place is offering both a timeless classic as well as a new creation that’s fun, fresh and zesty.
Log cakes are usually associated with chocolate, and Jack’s Place has crafted their very own version – Chocolate Chestnut Praline Log Cake ($ 45.80/kg). Think flourless chocolate sponge, dark chocolate cake, and vanilla genoise covered with a luscious chestnut cream. Yum! The bottom of the log is lined with a praline feuilletine, which is crisp and crunchy. This sweet, nutty and chocolaty cake will be a huge hit with kids and the chocoholics.
The Yuzu Mango Log Cake ($ 45.80/kg) is one of our highly recommended flavours! It combines zesty refreshing flavours with thick luscious mousse – it reminds us of the snow we never have here in Singapore. The pastel yellow mousse exterior which is a tangy blend of yuzu and mango houses a tart yuzu mango curd with peach and passion fruit compote. The whole mousse log is placed on a thin and crunchy hazelnut croquant that gives a textural contrast to the soft, and fluffy mousse. Slice open the log to reveal the pretty shades of yellow!

The Fullerton Hotel
A joyful Christmas will not be complete without Fullerton’s latest Yule Logs. Bewitch your senses with floral and fruity flavours locked in the Rosella Yule Log ($ 69/1kg). Break into the red velvet glaze to find a triple threat of rosella mint jelly, rosella cremeux and raspberry jam. A Manjari chocolate cake base injects a richness and creaminess that balances out the floral notes. Perfect harmony, we say.
Complementing the floral theme is a Mont Blanc Yule Log ($ 69/1kg), which marries sweet and earthy notes within its layers. Beneath the white chocolate glaze lies addictive layers of creamy Madagascar vanilla beans praline, baked vanilla bean sponge, ivory Chantilly vanilla beans and a shortcrust pastry. The cake is complete with orbs of glazed chestnuts that serve as a tribute to this Yuletide season. Simply irresistible.
The Fullerton’s Yule Logs are available from now till 31 December 2017 via shop.fullertonhotels.com, or from now till 31 December 2017 at The Fullerton Cake Boutique, with two locations in The Fullerton Hotel Singapore and The Fullerton Bay Hotel Singapore.
